What Culture Actually Is

Culture is not just food and holidays. It is the full system of how a group of people understands the world โ€” what they value, how they communicate, how they resolve conflict, how they celebrate, who they respect and why. Every country has one. Every city has one. Every family has one. You have one. Culture shapes what feels normal, what feels rude, and what feels obvious โ€” even when it isn't. Pick a country you are curious about. It can be anywhere. What do you already know about it โ€” not just facts, but what you think it might feel like to live there?

02

Compare Two Systems

Choose two countries โ€” your pick โ€” and compare them across these four areas:

How do people greet each other?
What is a meal like โ€” who eats together, when, how?
What is considered respectful toward elders or authority?
What do people do for fun or community?

You do not need to know all the answers. Research what you don't know. Use what you find to fill in the comparison. What surprised you most?

03

Your Cultural Lens

Every person sees the world through a cultural lens they didn't choose โ€” the one they were born into. Knowing that lens exists makes you a better thinker, a better designer, and a better builder โ€” because the people who will use what you create come from many different lenses. Write 3โ€“5 sentences:

What culture or cultures shaped how I grew up?
One thing I thought was universal that I learned is actually cultural:
One thing I want to understand better about a different culture:

This is not a report. It's a reflection.

Complete all three steps first.
