The Geography

Egypt was built around one thing: the Nile River. Every year it flooded, leaving rich soil behind. That soil grew the food that fed the builders of the pyramids. Find the Nile on a map — notice which direction it flows and where it empties into the sea.

The Power Structure

Egypt was ruled by pharaohs — considered gods on earth. Below them: priests, scribes, craftsmen, farmers, laborers. Write this hierarchy top to bottom in your own words. Why do you think scribes — people who could read and write — ranked higher than farmers?
