What Point of View Means

Every writer makes a choice: who is telling the story and how close are they to it? First person uses I and me — you are inside the narrator's head. Third person uses he, she, they — you are watching from outside.

I walked into the room and felt my heart stop.

She walked into the room and felt her heart stop.
Same moment. Different distance. Which feels more urgent to you?

Choose Your Lens

Think of a moment from your day or week — something small is fine. Write it twice: once in first person (I), once in third person (he/they). Just 2–3 sentences each. Notice what changes.

First person: I [write 2–3 sentences].

Third person: He/they [write 2–3 sentences].

What changed: [your observation].

Your Perspective Paragraph

Now write 4–5 sentences about something you know or care about — a game, a topic, an invention idea — from your own first-person point of view. Let your actual voice come through. This is your perspective, not a report.

I care about [topic] because [reason].
When I think about it, I notice [your thought].
My point of view is [your perspective].

Complete all three steps first.
