01

Choose What You Actually Want to Read

Pick anything โ€” a novel, a graphic novel, a long article about something you care about, a game design document, the history of a civilization that interests you, a Wikipedia rabbit hole. The only rule: it has to genuinely interest you. Reading something you chose is ten times more powerful than reading something assigned. Start there.

Novel or graphic novel Article or Wikipedia Game guide or manual
02

Read with a Purpose โ€” Notice Things

As you read, keep a notepad nearby โ€” physical or digital, either works. Every time a sentence or idea makes you stop and think, mark it or write it down. You are not just reading โ€” you are noticing. This is what writers, designers, and inventors actually do. They read and they notice.

Mark what surprises you Write what you question Note what excites you
03

Write Your Takeaway

When you finish your reading session, write 3โ€“5 sentences in your own words. Not a summary โ€” your reaction. What did you learn? What made you think? What do you want to know more about? There is no wrong answer here. This is your voice developing. Every sentence you write makes the next one easier.

Today I read about [topic].
I found it interesting that [observation].
This made me think about [connection].
I want to learn more about [curiosity].
Fill that template with your own words. That is your first piece of writing.

Complete all three steps first.
